I went to Best Buy to buy the Arco 2. I want it to record to my external drive as soon is it sees motion and notify me. They told me that it would not work. I would have to buy a hard wire security system. Is this true

In the context you mention, it's true. Arlo requires an Internet connection for it to fully work. You can record to a local USB drive (NOT a NAS) but it's exactly the same thing as what you get in the cloud/library. The USB drive is a backup. The alerts require the Internet connection.

I think I understand so if I have a Internet connection as soon as it Sees motion it will start recording And go to the cloud to
