Simple question,
I am thinkging about getting this camera system for my house. I understand that if the camera is plugged in it can have 24/7 recording as long as I pay the upgraded cloud storage. Can I have the same 24/7 recording but instead of paying for extra cloud storage, can I use an external hard drive connected to the base station's USB port?

Unfortunately, no. There's no way to activate continuous recording without purchasing the subscription.
If you want continuous local recording, with no cloud services, then you should probably look at other brands of traditional IP cameras. There are some out there that have memory card slots and will record directly to an SD card in the camera.

No.
The USB port is just a backup anyway. The only way to view recordings on an external drive is to remove the drive and connect it to a PC. You can't see them through the UI.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I don't mind removing the drive and connecting it to a PC to view the recordings. So with that said, it would work? If I plug the cameras so that power is not a problem and have an external drive plugged in would it be recording 24/7? It doesn't matter if I can't see the whole recording on the app, as long as it is stored in the external, it works for me.
