When I purchased this doorbell/video device it was not clear at all that it would eventually require a subscription to continue to get notifications when the "free trial" expires....having a hard time figuring out where to go next

Your doorbell doesn't stop working once the subscription or trial plan expires, however, to maintain the same great benefits of Arlo Smart you experienced with the trial, you will want to subscribe to a plan.
