This article is for the Arlo Secure App experience with Library. If you have the Arlo Secure App experience with Feed, please visit: How do I add, edit, or remove rules in my Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby Modes for my Arlo system?
You can create your own modes to cross-trigger or arm specific cameras on your Arlo SmartHub or base station. For example, you might want a mode that arms all your outdoor cameras and disarms all your indoor cameras when you’re at home. You might also want to set a different Arlo device to activate when one of your cameras detects motion. See the sections below for instructions.
Note: You can also set a schedule to automatically switch your cameras between different modes when you need them. For more information, visit: How can I set a schedule for my Arlo cameras?.
Arm outdoor cameras and disarm indoor cameras
You can create a mode that arms all your outdoor cameras and disarms all your indoor cameras when you’re at home. This is useful if you want Arlo to monitor outside activity, but you don’t want to record yourself while you’re indoors.
To create a perimeter mode for your home:
- Launch the Arlo Secure App or log in to my.arlo.com.
The Devices page displays. - Tap or click Modes.
- Select your Arlo SmartHub or base station.
- Tap or click Add a Mode.
- Enter a name for the mode.
- Select one of your outdoor cameras.
- Follow the app instructions.
- When you reach the Summary screen, tap or click Save.
Your SmartHub or base station modes appear. - Tap the edit (pencil) icon next to the mode you just created.
- Tap or click Add Rule to add the rest of your outdoor cameras.
Note: Remember that this mode should include all your outdoor cameras, and it should exclude your indoor cameras. - When you finish adding your cameras, tap or click Done.
Set your cameras to cross-trigger other Arlo devices
When one of your cameras detects motion or audio, you can set it to trigger a different camera to start recording. This is called cross-triggering. For example, you can set a camera in your backyard to record when your front yard camera detects motion or audio.
To set a camera to cross-trigger another Arlo device:
- Launch the Arlo Secure App or log in to my.arlo.com.
The Devices page displays. - Tap or click Modes.
- Select your Arlo SmartHub or base station.
- Tap or click Add a Mode.
- Enter a name for the mode.
- Select one of your cameras.
Note: This is the camera that detects motion and/or audio. - Follow the app instructions.
- When you reach the Devices screen, select a trigger or cross-trigger device.
Note: If you select the same camera that you selected earlier, then the same camera is set to both detect motion or audio and begin recording video. If you select a different camera, then one camera is set to detect motion or audio, and another is set to record video. - Follow the app instructions.
- When you finish adding your cameras, tap or click Done.
- After you finish creating the custom mode, you can add new cross-trigger devices by editing the mode’s rules.
