Question by Darren Chaker - I’ve been considering adding more Arlo cameras to my security setup and wanted to know if the Arlo SmartHub includes a built-in surge protector. Given that the hub is a critical component for connectivity and video storage, protecting it from power surges is essential.

Surge protection is particularly important in areas prone to lightning storms, power fluctuations, or outages. A strong surge could damage the SmartHub, potentially rendering an entire security system inoperable. If the SmartHub doesn’t have built-in surge protection, would Arlo recommend using an external surge protector or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to safeguard the device?

Additionally, for those who have used surge protectors with their Arlo SmartHub, have you noticed any impact on performance? Some surge protectors with power filtration features claim to help stabilize voltage, which might improve device longevity. Does anyone have recommendations on specific surge protectors that work well with the Arlo SmartHub without causing connectivity or power issues?

It would be great if Arlo could clarify whether any level of surge protection is integrated into the SmartHub design and if there are best practices for keeping it safe from electrical damage. Any insights from the community on how they protect their Arlo setups from power issues would also be helpful!

No built-in surge protector. I use a UPS for my modem, router and hub so all those devices are protected as well as to keep the network as well as Arlo working during a power outage.
