Recording issues

My problem is the camera starts late or it does not record when someone is here but for a few seconds then turns off and doesn't pick up again for another few minutes I will see a vehicle come not see who gets out then see it driving away. What can I do to fix this

How far away is the camera from the moving person (or vehicle)?

Is that object coming directly towards the camera?  Or is it moving across the field of view?
