Go 2 stuck cover

Brand new unit I cannot get the case cover off. There is a white release button that when pressed does not click or move or respond in any way so that seems to be broken. I am inserting my fingernails between the black camera and the white lens case and pulling hard but nothing happens. Is this a DOA unit or is there a trick to it?

Sometimes I have to hold the camera in one hand and "throw" it into my other hand to catch it. 

You can try putting both thumbs on the outer edges of the camera face and try pushing the camera into the case. It should click and the camera face should be even with the edge of the case. It may be that the o-ring is out of place, causing a lot of friction, making it hard to get the camera out of the case. Once you manage to get it free, make sure the o-ring is in place and not damaged. You can wipe a tiny amount of silicone grease on the seal to make it easier next time.
