i bought an essential 2nd gen camera after asking arlo if it would match up with my current solar panel  i was told it would  it does NOT i'll probably be looking for a new different system that when equipment is upgraded it will match existing equipment

Correct, if you have a solar panel for a different model, it will not be compatible with 2nd generation devices. Arlo 2nd generation devices use the VMA6600 Solar Panel found here: https://www.arlo.com/en-us/accessories/VMA6600-10000S.html
