cam speaker can only be faintly heard

I can't get the cam speaker volume up loud enough to use in the talk back function. The app volume level says it's 100%. It can only be faintly heard... too low to even be counted as a feature. Was in a "chat" session with tec support today for over an hour. They were not helpful and gave up... cut me off. Can any body help. I need the talk back function. I can hear them a little, but they can barely hear me at all. Thanks for any help.

I recall reading a number of previous posts over the years related to similar behaviour using the arlo app on some android devices. No solutions I recall.
