Hello

I have an Essential and a VMB4000 base, I realize that I can record locally to a thumb drive inserted into the base but I can only access the video recordings when I pull the drive and insert into a PC.  If I upgrade to a new smart hub/base will I be able to access the recordings via wifi/ my phone?  I would rather not waste more money on a newer hub if this is not the case.  Very frustrated that it was very unclear that I had to have a subscription when I purchased the essential camera seeing as my two older cameras record locally.  If I indeed have to have a subscription I will likely not be purchasing any future Arlo devices.

Thank you

Yes, with either the VMB4540 (USB) or the VMB5000 (microSD).

There are limitations:

  • direct access only from the app (not the browser)
  • access only for the primary account (not friend accounts)
  • no ability to make manual recordings or snapshots
  • no thumbnails
  • remote access requires router setting changes that some find difficult - and which aren't available on all networks (for instance, Starlink and T-mobile broadband to name two).
