The signal strength from my Virgin Media router to the Arlo CCTV camera is not great. I have tried installing a Virgin WiFi Booster but that does not seem to have made much difference. If I purchased a Arlo SmartHub VMB5000 would I be able to connect it via the supplied Ethernet cable to the WiFi booster, so that I can get the VMB500 as close as possible to the camera? I am open to any other suggestions that would save me having to pay £170 for the Smarthub.

The extender should be placed kind of midway between the router and camera or closer to the camera as long as it can maintain a good connection to the router. You can test by bringing the camera closer to the extender or the extender closer to the camera. That should negate the need for the hub or base.
