Are changing cables proprietary or will any USB cable work? On my old Arlo cameras, I removed the battery in order to have them connected to AC power, but on the Essential, the generic cable is not working.
Is there a solution for this? Do I need to use the cable that came with the Essential?

I suspect the issue is that the plastic surrounding the actual microUSB connector is preventing the connector from fully seating - I've experienced that myself. Try to find the cable with the least plastic to see if that works. Of course, it could be the charger that's at fault.

I trimmed some of the rubber casing from the USB connector and that solved the problem. No more low battery warnings. 🙂
