Arlo Essential Spotlight installation question

I'm new at this.  Do I need to link camera to a system? Or can it work independently?

The installation procedure steps you right through this. These cameras can be connected to either your WiFi or to an Arlo hub. Both have (dis)advantages but generally are similar in utility.
