I want to set the following automations up but I cannot figure out how:

• Arm Home when I’m home (6am–10pm)
• Arm Away when I’m away (any time)
• Arm Away automatically at 10pm–6am, even when I’m home

You need 2 schedules as well as geofencing.

Schedule 1 changes mode to Arm Home at 6 AM. Schedule 2 changes mode to Arm Away at 10 PM. Then create both a Leave automation that changes mode to Arm Away when certain or every person leaves (you have to select the People Leave section to do this) and then a second automation for Arrive that changes mode to Arm Home when anyone arrives.

Thanks for replying! I had it set up that way initially but I was running into issues where if I came home after 10PM, it would Arm Home which I don’t want. Is there a way for it to not do that?

Unfortunately no.  Custom Modes will give give you these options after it is fully rolled out.

In the meantime you need to manually switch to Arm Away when you come after 10.

FYI, this won't work when you are away for several days, as the schedule will remain active.

The path I generally recommend is to set up "Arm Away" and "Arm Home" identically.  Then re-purpose "Standby" to substitute for the original "Arm Home".  Then

  • Schedule "Arm Home" and "Standby",
  • "Leave" switches to "Arm Away"
  • "Arrive" switches to "Arm Home"

You can alternatively remember to disable the schedule when you go away for an extended trip.
