The product page says "on-demand privacy" what does that entail? Does it have a Automated Privacy Shield?

When the Arlo Essential Pan Tilt Indoor Camera is in standby mode, motion detection and the microphone will be disabled and the camera will position itself so that the lens is facing downward, blocking the field of view.

The specs indicate it is powered by plugging into AC outlet. Is there a comparable camera that is battery powered? I'm in the process of shopping the Arlo products to set-up cameras for the first time and am trying to avoid cords.

SherryF,
While the Pan Tilt cameras require AC power, Arlo has several wire-free offerings. These are the latest wire-free models that can be set up to operate without any cables attached:
Arlo Essential Security Camera 3rd Gen
Arlo Ultra Security Camera 3rd Gen
Arlo Pro Security Camera 2K 6th Gen
You can find more information about these Arlo devices and others at arlo.com

Does this camera require a subscription?
Is there anyway to use the camera with saved videos without having a subscription? I need to monitor to see if elderly parents are taking their medications & can't always watch them live. Sometimes, my mother hides her meds & tells me she took them.

Dookiebird,
While a subscription is not required to use an Arlo Essential Pan Tilt Indoor Camera, an Arlo Secure plan will be necessary to save content to the Feed.
The camera comes with a trial plan included, once the trial expires you will need to purchase a subscription to continue enjoying the same benefits included in the trial.

You'd need the CVR subscription, so the camera is recording all the time. Pan/Tilt is probably not what you need, since the camera might not be pointed in the right direction when she takes (or hides) her meds. Arlo's CVR will have some gaps, and it isn't that easy to navigate the timeline.
Overall, a security camera might not be the best solution for this. If she is aware of the camera, I think she could still hide what she is doing.

How long is the a/c cord, and does it connect directly into an a/c outlet?

There is no a/c cord. Instead there is an 6.5 foot USB-C to USB-C cable with a 5v 2 amp charger that plugs into the wall.
So you can substitute a longer cable or a different charger if you want.

Thank you. When I spoke via their chat app in the right hand corner of their web page, after posting this question, the person online told me 25 feet and a/c plug on end of it...wildly different answers.

He was thinking about the outdoor version of the camera.
