Do i need an Alro hub to connect the camera wirelessly to the app on the iPhone?

No. A Base Station or SmartHub is not needed. You can connect the Arlo Essential Pan Tilt Indoor Camera directly to your 2.4 GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
