I bought 3 of these gen2 cameras.  Must say, I made a huge mistake.  I had 8 cams previously, all hooked up to my smart hub.  The gen2 do NOT  connect to you smart hub.

My HD cameras 1080P, record in 1080p.  The gen2, supposed to record in 2K, but instead it's more like 200p quality.  I am so disappointed.  My gen2 randomly lose connection, and I need to press the sync button.. disappointing... All my previous cans do not have this issue.  I wish I can return them and purchase the previous gen 1080p cams instead.  Why would Arlo release a product like this?  So not fair.

Base Station/SmartHub compatibility is now available for Arlo 2nd generation devices. For those that already have your Arlo 2nd generation device onboarded, you will need to remove the device from your Arlo account and re-onboard to see the option to sync with your Base Station/SmartHub. The following firmware or newer is required for this integration.

Compatibility list:
Arlo Essential 2nd Generation Outdoor - VMC2050, VMC2052 – Firmware: 1.5.0_1048_85f53f3

This sounds very much like a connection issue. Poor quality video and loss of connection usually are related, especially since 2k requires more bandwidth. This can be due to signal strength and/or quality. If you bring a camera closer to your router for testing does that improve the issue? Have you checked for other wireless devices that also use the 2.4GHz band that may be causing interference? What is your house construction? Since you have a base station installed, try moving that as far as practical away from the router.

Hi there.  I did check the connection.  It is very strong, maxed out infact.  Manual video recording is never on 2k, or even HD.  It is now like 320P.  I have trouble shooted everything you can imagine.

Will these cams ever receive an update so they can connect to my name station?

Have you checked the resolution in the metadata of a downloaded video?

One tool that can be useful for this is MediaInfoXP

That would let us know whether the camera is recording at 2K (but with poor quality) or whether it is actually recording at a lower resolution.

Apologies, it is actually recording in 2k but with such low quality.  So when compared to my essential spotlight HD cameras, they record in HD but the quality is far far better.

But the HD cams are through my base station.. where gen2 direct wifi.  Wish there is an update where I can connect to base station in future

JamesC my firmware has been updated and I deleted it for wifi in the app but when I try to connect it to my base station it finds the VMB4000 but won't find camera. This Gen2 camera still does not work for my base station VMB4000
