I have 4 cameras, 2 each in different locations (home and cottage), no base station. Can I arm the 2 home cameras separately from the 2 cottage? I see that ‘arm away’ arms all 4. Before I got the 4th camera and before the software update I was able to do this.

One option is to set up two locations in the account - one for your home, and one for the cottage.  Then move the cameras into the proper locations (removing and readding them as needed).

Then you will have two sets of modes (arm away, arm home, standby) for each location.  The downside here is that you will need two subscriptions - one for each location.

The other option is to repurpose the three modes you have.  Unfortunately you'd need 4 modes to get full control

  1. cameras on at both locations
  2. cameras only on at home
  3. cameras only on at the cottage.
  4. cameras off at both locations

But if you never turn them both off, you could potentially drop that option.  So maybe use

  • Arm Away to arm all cameras
  • Arm Home to arm only the home cameras
  • Standby to arm only the cottage cameras

Instructions on modifying the modes are here:

Then what is the use of the two different modes, arm away and arm home?

The names suggest that Arlo was thinking you'd use one of the modes when home and the other when away.

But you can modify them, and use them however you want.
