There are some internet service providers that can't do port forwarding. Generally that is because they've deployed Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) or a similar technology in order to deal with IPv4 address depletion.

Who is in your internet service provider? You could contact them, as sometimes they can assign your router an IPv4 address that supports forwarding.

Another possibility is that you don't know the steps needed to set this up in your router. If that is the issue, post back with your router manufacturer/model. Also if there is a modem/gateway in front of your router, provide that information also.

I have a VMB4540 smart hub for a base. I was told by an arlo support rep by using the smart hub, with local recordingand setting up port forwarding, I would not need a subscrtion. Great news with all the price increases right? except I've never been able to get the port forwarding to work. What am I missing???
