If you note the warning when setting up local storage you'll see that thumb drives are recommended, not hard drives. Besides, 2TB is gross overkill for this usage - a cheap 64GB drive will hold an awful lot of videos.

Adding external 2TB storage device.

Shows slider to record locally but says drive needs to be formatted. When you click Format USB device, it asks to format. After clicking yes, it takes about 2 seconds and returns to screen so no formatting action happening.

It did change the name of the drive but that's it.

Doesn't show available space and the "safely eject local storage" does nothing.

Current firmware version: 1.20.4.1_4214_d606780

I've see this: https://community.arlo.com/t5/Arlo-Pro/Arlo-Pro-Base-Station-VMB4000r3-fails-formatting-USB-Drives/m-p/1720948#M61030

but that references a really old firmware update. Not looking to retrofix the firmware. 🙂

If you have a workaround to format it not using the base station, I'll take that.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to format it in a PC using FAT32.
