topic Possible to create high-availability network between VMBs? in Arlo

does Netgear or Arlo, for that matter, publish recommended 'topologies' for their connection possibilities?

Is it possible to create a High-Availability network between VMBs, for instance? Are they smart enough to know that they are sharing an LAN environment and pass on the connection to the best, strongest signal connection, for example? Or, should a VMB stop, would the remaining VMB take over?

Netgear spun off Arlo back in 2018, so Netgear is not involved any more.

@ogxm wrote:

No. While it would be nice if the bases formed a mesh of some kind, they don't do that.

Each VMB connects via ethernet to your router. and they communicate independently to the Arlo cloud. They do not communicate with each other.

Similarly, each VMB creates a closed WiFi connection for its cameras. Each camera is paired with a base, and it will not failover to a second base if the main one fails.

Some newer cameras can connect directly to your home wifi, and of course that can be a mesh.
