Arlo App 2.8.0 problem

When I run the newly downloaded app, I see this msg. "This is an older version of the Arlo app and will not receive fixes or support. Please update your operating system and/or device to download the newest version." WHY?

I suspect this has something to do with the dated (4.4.1) Android OpSys I'm running, although the app's description states it runs on 4.1 or newer. Can anyone confirm that the new app runs on Android 4.4.1?
