I bought a battery back up and as luck would have it, the power went out for 5 minutes the next day. Didn't lose the signal.

Today, however, I ended up returning the system. It did not do what I needed it to do and I was spending too much time finding out there were known issues that are not yet resolved.

Things I liked:

-being able to set up modes and have other cameras record based on motion from another camera

-scheduling

-geofencing (althought that did not seem to want to work for me)

things i didn't like:

-takes very long for the camera's too load

-takes too long to detect motion, in some tests, a person could walk by a camera and by the time the camera initialized, the person was gone.

-battery life - I had the base outdoor camera's. If cold, distance, night time, etc affects a camera, all outdoor cameras should have the ability to be charged using AC. This is the main reason I returned the system.

-motion range too short. i could walk a short distance from the camera and it would not go off.

A nice system but seems like there are a lot of things that need to be fixed. For the money, I would not recommend.

Recently purchased the VMS3530 system. Was working fine, it appears I lost power at the house while away. The system was offline for few days before I returned. The base station had 2 green lights when I inspected it. The internet light was not working. I rebooted the base and internet router. I finally got a Server Problem message saying a webpage was not reachable. (https://vzs3-prod-common.s3.amazonaws.com/static/v2/html/en/...). The next day, everything is working. Did the power outage cause something to happen? I am not how sure how it fixed itself and am just curious what happened. I read if a power outage occurs, the system should come back online by itself. This did not appear to happen.

Depending on the exact power outage circumstances, the base mY have trouble reconnecting to the servers, hence the issue with the Internet LED. If so, a power cycle of the base is generally required. Sometimes a power cycle of the router and then the base is needed.

A recommendation we've been suggesting is to use both a UPS for your modem, router and base so a power outage won't affect them unless very long as well as a WiFi switch such as a WeMo that the base plugs into so you can remotely turn the base off and on. Generally the UPS is sufficient with the WiFi switch being a backup.
