Gersman,

The screenshot in your video settings does not have Night Vision enabled as there is enough ambient light present in the cameras field of view to keep the Night Vision feature from being enabled (possibly the screenshot is from a different time or a different nearby light is turned on adding more light to the image).

In your stream, the Night Vision is enabled, this is due to lack of ambient light. If you disable Night Vision, this image would likely look very similar to the image in your Video settings, if enough ambient light is available.

I have attached two photos to show the difference.

i am using a standard wireless camera not a pro

Unfortunately, until the admins approve your photos, we can't see them. How does the video look when you go into Live view? If it's still dark, move the brightness slider to the right and click the check mark and see if that makes a difference

I've turned off the night vision but I can't see a thing, I guess it's just as you said that there was enough light present in the snapshot but when i lose the light the night vision kicks in,

not as good as the colour and brightness in the snapshot but I can't see anything with it off.

My understanding was that "Night Vision" merely referred to the operation of the IR illuminators. The video being color or black & white is purely determined by the amount of ambient light the camera sees. If it's dark, it'll be B&W. If it's a well lit scene, it'll be color. Correct me if that's wrong

This is correct. I missed an important piece in my statement above that may have caused some confusion, added in italics.
