Why should I have to take the batteries out to get night vision back. Is netgear looking to recall these cameras or replace them as they do not live up to the expectations?

Is that what you keep having to do? If so, contact support or go back to your retailer and have the camera repaired/replaced. The Arlo Pro camera is significantly better with night vision if you have an area you especially want coverage for in the dark and are happy buying an add on camera. It will sync to your existing system. I have that set up. 4 Arlo cameras with Arlo base and 2 add on Arlo Pro cameras. The Pros are better in so many ways
