Night vision range

Hi
Just getting my arlo set up t the moment and I'm quite disappointed with the night vision performance. One one camera which is close to the wall on one side, the IR is really bright which makes the rest of the image dark. On the other I can hardly see anything.

What is the expected range of the IR LEDS? In my back garden I mounted one just below my bedroom window for easy access. But I can't see the patio at night so I'm guessing I won't see anyone either. It's probably about 10-12 ft off the ground pointing down at about 30-40 degrees

I guess for the back garden I can lower it if needed (less likely to get it snatched than my driveway would), but tomorrow I was going to put one up on my front wall about the same height and I'm getting unsure. I want it high to avoid it being grabbed by a passer-by, but not too steep an angle to avoid 'top of head' images. Will it be too far away? Will I need to get my wife to stand there in the dark while I test the range out?

Can you get IR floodlights? I don't like the normal security lights as we can get woken up by the bright light through the curtains but we may not have a choice..

Yes...if the IR lights are along a wall the IR light tends to wash out the picture a bit as the iris must deal with the brightness on the wall.

Range is effected by height and angle and if the IR light is bouncing off somethng else ...but should be good to about 10-15 feet in most conditions, 30 feet at best conditions

Arlo att night 6 ft off ground, middle short stump is 28ft

Arlo

Same picture from Arlo Pro

Arlo Pro

Any outdoor lighting will work good , like sensor flood lights... but to answer the question , Yes you can buy 850nm IR floods on ebay for not much money ( I actually use one from the old Vuezone system )

Thanks. I'll have a measure up but the distance from the camera to back door should be way less than 28ft but looks very dark. I'll experiment with putting something in front of the back door to see if it’s clearly visible. Could the la4asol being quite bright be causing the background to underexposed?

I have the same problem with the side closest to the wall being very bright! Is there another solution to this problem?
