Check out the regular Doorbell or Doorbell 2. Both can operate on battery only, with an optional hardwire. They both have adjustable distance motion zones with battery only

The Pro version does require hardline power, which is likely why the custom-drawn detection zones is only in the Pro version

I know senstivity adjustment exists, it would be useful to have a simple table that correlates sensitivity level to approximate distance (ft/meters). It would be easier to start from a recommended distance/sensitivity level rather than having to walk around in front of the camera using the sensor test option to initially find out where the approximate limits are

sensitivity isn't necessarily related to distance but the IR that the camera uses to determine if motion is mostly related to size, strenth of IR signature caused by size and intensity and direction relative to camera that the IR signature is travelling

Does Ring use a different sensor type than Arlo for motion detection? Their app allows users to set an approximate distance in feet that you want the sensor to be active.

know very little about the Ring, but isn't the cam activated when someone pushes the bell?

It has standard motion detection capability and ability to define ~5 radial zones in the basic models and custom detection zones (likely software based, not hardware) in the pro models

With an ultra slim design and advanced features, Ring video doorbell Pro is the premium, compact, wi-fi video doorbell. Ring video doorbell Pro hard wires to the existing wires from your internal doorbell

this tells me its a mains operated and not battery operated syste.

Mains operated cams use a different motioin detection systemwhich is much more accurate, but a battery operated can't because it would empty the battery in a couple of days.
