Water has got inside the housing and some rust on the connections. I cleaned it up and put in new batteries and it was working ok. Then it said it was offline so I want to test the batteries to see if they have been used up. But my battery tester doesn't register anything. Do I need a special tester? Thanks if anyone can help

pam

The batteries should have a voltage of between 2.75V and 3.2V. Whatever you're using to measure the voltage needs to read this high. A multimeter is probably the best device to use

yes... when New the 123 cells are 3.2v

when they hit 2.75v or so the camera will say they are dead

Thank you, it's a bit weird because normally I Get a warning to say the batteries are low, but this time it just said device offline. Have changed batteries, and working again now, but wondering if the rust has an impact on battery life.

No but it can have an effect on battery connection in the first place. Any oxidation may lead to a poor or nonexistent connection for that battery.
