How do I use the Arlo privacy feature with a shared account?

I have recently set up my Arlo base station with 4 wireless cameras. So far so good! Everything is working, including phones using Geofencing to control arming and disarming.

How can I control privacy settings though? If I log in and turn off a camera, the other user can simply log in and turn the camera on. Is there a way to prevent this?

Only the admin account holder can turn the cameras on and off ( in SETTINGS, camera )... If your allowing others to share with your main email/password , then YES they can simply go in and turn them back on.

If you share by giving access using GRANT ACCESS ( under SETTINGS ) or " friend's access" then they would not have that option to turn on.

You can limit the admin actions in the friends access .

Awesome, thanks. I'll try that. This is a superior system that seems to be better than systems that people pay many thousands of dollars for!

Actually I think this may have been "closed" prematurely.

I did grant access as you described to my wife, using her e mail address (not the same as mine) yet when I had her phone I was able to click the gear icon and turn on the camera. I also did not grant her admin rights so I'm not sure why she can do this.

Shared users should not be able to toggle a camera on/off without having the "Allow access rights" toggle turned on within Grant Access settings on the primary account. Check your settings again and make sure "Allow access rights" is toggled off for the shared cameras.

James, I too tried this with another email address, and it seems this shared access (without granted access rights) can remove devices and rename them. Is there a way to limit the amount of control this shared access has, other than on/off granted access? Perhaps another level of access like live footage only?

Dmmack,

This is intended. The ability to remove and rename the device only makes changes to the shared access account.

For example, if the camera is named Dmmack's Cam on the master account and the shared access account renames that camera to JamesC's Cam, the name change is displayed only on the shared account.

This is also true for removing cameras. If the shared user removes a shared camera, it only removes it from the shared users view, not from the system.

This allows the shared access user to manage the viewing of shared cameras without the changes affecting the master account.
