Higher resolution means basicly a better picture.

The higher the rez, the more detail you can see, you can zoom in more if need be, and will see smaller objects clearer.

Higher resolution means finer detail (and larger file size). Not sure how to answer your question about how to understand the resolution - Arlo is 720p (~1Mp) for the wireless cameras and 1080p (2Mp) for the Q cameras. There's more to it than resolution with compression being part of the equation as well as the angle of view.

What exactly are you after?
