The Arlo Wire-free system and Arlo Q need to connect to the Arlo servers to work and save recordings to the cloud.

You might consider looking into the Arlo Q Plus as it does have an SD card backup option which allows recordings to be saved to the SD card if the internet connection is lost. For more information on the Arlo Q Plus, see here: Introducing the Arlo Q Plus™ Security

Have a need to have a real-time connection to the cameras in the house. Want to connect it to a TV input or a monitor, does the system have a video out? If so what format - rca/vga/hdmi?

No, there are no outputs...

but I put my Ipad on a stand and leave it out to view when I get a motion detect. Most of the IOS or Android tablets will function the same.

I haven't tried to push the video to the smart tv yet, but will try.

Read the description and look at the photos on the Netgear website. Also, there must be at least 50 video reviews of the cameras. NONE of these mention any of those options, anywhere.

I dont understand why people just simply refuse to actually read product descriptions!

Almost as annoying as people threatening not to recommend Arlo to someone because it doesnt have IFFTTTTT, blah blah,

etc. etc.

It was not designed for ANY of those purposes except a live video streaming/clip recording compact battery operated camera product!

Thanks for the responses. Why would you have a system that you can not locally look at as well? The documentation on the site seems light in this regard, specifically a picture of the rear of the base station. I am an installer and have my own LLC doing security cameras and this seems like a low cost option for my customers. This would be used by families with an older parent who needs a nursing assistant and they are requesting to have a local live feed.

"CR123A batteries" and "live feed" dont work whatsoever together in the same sentence. The Arlo camera will not play live longer than 15 minutes before defaulting back to either the off position or motion sensing position. It will only record two minutes at most of motion, then back to off again. After one minute has passed of it being dormant from the last recording, it will then record another 10 to 120 seconds of motion again, and do that cycle over and over until the batteries are dead. That equates to just over 2hours of recorded clips on one set of batteries (each camera takes 4 batteries) Each battery costs no less than $1 a piece, and that is as cheap as you will find them.

This system is not cheap to maintain if you want to do anything but check in on something for a few seconds here and there throughout any given day.

Its not designed to be a surveillance camera or security camera. Maybe security camera, yes, but at the end of the day, it doesnt qualify as a "security" camera with its limitations as a completely battery operated system.

There are USB ports on the back of the included router that are intended for further development in the future, but they would never provide for an alternate power source as designed.

Correcting the minor errors;

The Arlo camera will not play live longer than 15 minutes before defaulting back to either the off position

Actually, unless the latest s/w has changed, it will record for 30min and then shut down a live view to preserve batteries.

It will only record two minutes at most of motion, then back to off again. After one minute has passed of it being dormant from the last recording,it will then record another 10 to 120 seconds of motion again,

There is no time pause between recorded events.... it will record for the time set and if motion has continued restart recording again for the set time

There are USB ports on the back of the included router that are intended for further development in the future, but they would never provide for an alternate power source as designed.

USB port are designd to a set spec... they can output 5v at a min of 500ma ( if not more )

I use the cams as a live feed or streaming all the time... but they are not meant for long term recording as you mention.

Ah...that's a good idea. I'll try both the browser as well as the hdmi from ipad to tv. I just don't want to have another device between camera and TV. The reason I want to do this is because I have a bedroom in the basement. No windows, so I wanted to get a large tv that would act like a window looking out the back or front of the house. Thanks.

The connection between the camera and any device other than the base is not possible. It would be nice to be able to tap into the stream but don't forget that there is no stream unless you're recording due to motion or using live view. Excessive live viewing can drain the batteries quickly since the spec usage is ~4 minutes per day total usage to get 4-6 months of battery life. The Q camera (indoors only but can be used through a window) can use live view for extended times (doesn't seem to timeout) as well as the continuous video recording (CVR) mode to be able to go back and see the stream would be more usable. Of course, it's still a stream from the camera to the Arlo servers and then back to your computer/whatever for viewing.
