I deliberately opted for your cameras and a SmartHub because I value high-quality hardware, data protection and local video recording - a solution that works reliably even without a cloud subscription.

Unfortunately, I now had to realize that local recording is only possible with cameras that are directly connected to the SmartHub via proprietary radio. Cameras that are integrated into the same network via WLAN are excluded from local storage on the system side, although technically nothing would speak against it. This artificial restriction is unacceptable to me.

In addition, the SmartHub (VMB5000) is unstable in practice and has repeatedly hung up. For more cameras, I would have to place it in environments that are not suitable for the device - for example, outdoors with extreme temperatures.

For these reasons, I will not be purchasing any more Arlo products in the future, as I do not want to be dependent on a cloud subscription to be able to use basic functions such as motion detection and video recording. I had opted for a long-lasting, locally usable solution and was disappointed in this expectation.

Hi @OP1397

Your devices can still detect motion and notify you without the need for an Arlo secure subscription.
