They're connected to a base. Bought a video doorbell 3 or 4 months ago. It's on a direct to Wi-Fi connection. When I bought it I signed up for a free 3 month trial of Arlo Secure. Everything worked fine until my trial expired. Now the doorbell does not record. Apparently I have to take it off the direct to Wi-Fi connection and get it to connect to my base. I have been unsuccessful.
