So then if it's compatible with the base station I can get 7 days of recordings by default without the Arlo subscription?

No. Old cameras included 7 days of free cloud recording as part of the sale - not the base stations.

Arlo stopped offering this on the newer cameras (and video doorbells) starting with the Ultra in 2018.
