If you look at the wiring diagram, you'll see there were two wires at the chime location. Those need to be joined together - for instance with a wire nut connector.

I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation and we've opted to remove the decades old wired chime in the house and use the Chime 2 instead. Now that the original chime has been pulled out the wired doorbell doesn't get any power any longer.

Any help on how I can connect the wired doorbell to the doorbell transformer correctly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You may need an electrician but it sounds like the wiring at the chime location needs to be checked. It's possible that the power from the transformer was connected in some way to the chime first and then out to the doorbell. I wouldn't think that's normal but possible. You'd need to find the two wires connected to the transformer (they would likely be the same color at the transformer and the chime as well as having voltage present) and directly connect those to the wires going to the doorbell (check the colors again). Usually the doorbell acts like a switch to provide power to the chime so the connection would be from the transformer to the doorbell to the chime.

It may be simpler/better to run new wire from the transformer directly to the doorbell.

@jguerdat wrote:

it sounds like the wiring at the chime location needs to be checked.

If you only had a single chime, then simply disconnecting the wires at the chime would stop power from reaching the doorbell. You can see this from the typical wiring diagram (for a simple doorbell) here:

The power flows from the transformer through the doorbell, to the chime, and then flows from the chime back to the transfomer. Just disconnecting the wires at the chime gives you an open circuit ( so no power at the bell).

If the wires are still accessible at the chime location, you need to connect the wire from the front connector to the transformer (for instance, using a wire nut). It's best to put the wires inside an electrical box.

That's helpful. The chime was completely removed as we don't want to use it any longer. Any idea how the wiring should be modified to allow the wired doorbell to receive power and link up with the Chime 2?
