How does Geofencing work?

I am not familiar with exactly how geofencing works within an Arlo system. Does it track the selected devices while they are outside of the established geofenced area, or only while the devices are inside the established geofenced area?

The app on each phone set up for geofencing monitors the phone's location. I don't know the details of the cloud API, but my guess is that the app only tells the cloud when the phone has crossed the geofencing radius. That would be the most scalable approach.
