Sketchy Motion Detection

Hello,

I am trying to figure out the range and radius of the ultra 2 cams.

Info says 25ft or 8m, but I am not getting good motion detection on them. Seems spotty if you will.

My image in my post shows where you place your feet before motion is detected. So anywhere in the red on the inside, closest to camera, as long as your feet are in that zone, you will get motion detection.

Sensitivity is 100% and activity zone is the whole screen.

Same for my garage and doorbell

Any ideas?

The motion detection in the Ultra uses 2 PIR (passive infrared) sensors. Arlo optimizes for detection across the field of view, not directly towards the camera. The cameras are also more sensitive to motion at the bottom of the field of view than the top.

When you do this test, are you walking directly towards the camera? Or are you moving from side to side?

Also, it might be useful to know the distance from the red outline to the camera,

I tested with different light levels, modes and movements.

The minimum detection from camera is about 1 metre, and the peak area is about 4 metres.

light level doesn't matter, since the sensors are infrared.

Did you try removing the activity zone (instead of setting it up for the entire field of view)?

What motion sensitivity are you using?

If you are testing making recordings, then a full-screen activity zone is processed a bit differently than no activity zone. After the PIR sensors trigger, the Arlo Cloud looks for motion inside the zone using the video, and supresses recordings and notifications when there is no motion detected. With no zone, only the camera's PIR sensors are used for detection.

If you can easily get power to the camera, you might also try powering it and see if that makes any difference.

This wouldn't matter if you are using the motion detection test.
