Hi
I have an Arlo ultra kit and have been trying to get remote access working. I have followed all the steps but to no avail.
I have recently seen that all ISP providers in New Zealand (where I am) now use a CGNAT system (Carrier Grade Network Address Translation ). From what I've read this means that port forwarding isn't available.
My questions:
Is this something that Arlo is aware of?
Is there a work around?
My friends Eufy cam seems to be able to get remote access, can Arlo impliment the same kind of tech.?
If port forwarding isn't an option and there fore I cannot get remote access but direct access is being advertised as a feature here is this a case for a refund?

That may or may not be the problem because after their firmware update a little while back and there are app update I also have a problem with remote storage. It will work fine over my Wi-Fi but when I leave my house that's when it's a problem

Hmmm, I can access direct storage from my wifi too but the port forwarding setup won't activate. I have entered all the info at the modem/router and on the Arlo app but the status says "not available".
Searches on the internet is were I found that my ISP and others in NZ now use CGNAT and on their website it says port forward won't work. Apparently I can get a static IP but that costs an additional $10 a month with the ISP.

I don't know how much you know about CGNAT, but it means you are behind another router owned by your ISP that you have no access to, and that gives you a private IP that's inaccessible from the Internet.

To get past CGNAT you can use a third-party VPN service that bounces your connection through an externally accessible relay server. For example:

https://www.softether.org/4-docs/2-howto/6.VPN_Server_Behind_NAT_or_Firewall/2.VPN_Azure

Technically, Arlo could get around CGNAT by bouncing your connection through their server. However, that would use up bandwidth on Arlo's servers and defeat the purpose of remote local storage access.
