The developers are wasting time adding a ZOOM OUT on the browser pages????

I can't believe I'm having to write this. As of today when I'm on the my.arlo pages, when I move between screens such as dashboard and devices, the page now zooms-out, from bigger to smaller to fit the page. It zooms out in about .25 seconds. It's an entirely useless, impactless, worthless, stupid addition to the interface. It doesn't add anything to the tool other than an annoying distraction. It doesn't fix any of the problems. It doesn't address any of the hundreds of issues raised here. It doesn't replace all of the missing functionality.

That arlo is devoting developer and designer resources to something so asinine instead of making the tool work, so that people can have the security that we paid for, is absolutely unforgivable.

It shows that Arlo does not listen to their customers. Do NOT try to tell me that these developers are separate from the people working on the issues. I've been a developer alone and on many teams for more than 45 years, and I know the process. It should be all-hands-on-deck for the massive defects in this garbage of a tool.

This is unforgivable that you waste your time, our time and our money.

I saw that too. Like you, I wish it didn't do that. Arlo doesn't know how big my screen is - or how good my vision is.

I want to keep the zoom at 100% and scroll as needed. If I want to change the zoom instead, I can do that on my own.

They do know how big your screen is. That's a property available for all objects. No, they don't know how good your vision is (until we get those brain implants.... 😳)

What they're doing here is 100% for visual effect. Nothing more.

Worse than useless - it is a bad idea that blocks me from seeing the page as I want to see it.

But I just checked again today, and it is not auto-zooming on my system now. So I think they've changed it back.

Off your topic for sure.

Yes, I understand that the EDID contains that info, so the OS knows it.

But that doesn't mean that the web page has access to it. I don't think it is possible using in-browser JavaScript (and googling suggests it is not possible due to security/privacy restrictions).

A browser extension might be able to get it, but Arlo doesn't require any.

Knowing how inept the Dev Team is, I think it's unintentional that zoom, i.e. another glitch with the system 🙄😜

They certainly do seem to be, but what I'm talking about was deliberate. They seem to think it's a cool looking visual effect.

I said Arlo didn't know my display size or how good my vision was in my original comment - you argued that they did know the display size, so you were the one who started that side discussion.

The zoom-out to show the full page happened to me a couple days ago. Changing the zoom back to 100% manually didn't help - it just auto-zoomed the page again.

But I went in again with Edge yesterday, and something different happened. Edge remembered the 50% zoom level that the auto-zoom had set previously, but when I reset that manually to 100% it didn't change it back. Logging into my.arlo.com a second time also did not result in any change to the zoom.

FWIW, I don't regularly use the web client except for testing but just now, using Chrome on my Chromebook, I saw no evidence of zooming at all. Whether that's because of my environment or something got fixed between your noticing it and my attempt to reproduce it, I have no idea.

It's a screen transition animation of the page zooming out like the kind you can see in .ppt presentations or any other app that allows you to add star-wipe or fade-out/in, zoom-in/out transitions.

It's very subtle when clicking on the Device tab, and not at all subtle when clicking on the Dashboard tab. It's happening on both Safari and Firefox. It just started a couple of days ago and it's still there.

The area that 'zooms' is just the rendering of the area that shows device screens, not the left panel, not the icons up top. It does not happen on any other tab,.

I had to flush cookies to see it. I don't see it at all on Devices but do see it on Dashboard. IMHO, it's a non-issue although if it actually takes coding to do this I'd rather see bugs removed instead.

Sorry @jguerdat but how is that not an issue? We paid for this system and expect no issues. This isn't a GitHub project that is done by a bunch of enthusiasts but is meant to be a professional application with usability adequate to the price point. At the mo, I'm not and, for some time now, I've not been getting that adequacy.

I don't expect no issues, but I do expect no major or medium issues - which is probably what you meant.

I honestly think that Arlo will never get this current app to work properly. I think they really need to start from scratch in order to address all of the UX issues and the defects which prevent people from getting the confidence level of security we've paid for.

I appreciate your taking the time to understand and duplicate the issue. I don't like the zooming. For me it's just a useless distraction. As @ittroll has pointed out, it could have an accessibility impact for people averse to motion.

My issue is the devotion of resources to designing, implementing and I assume testing, when they could be better utilized working on the known issues. (Not trying to get too snarky here, but I'm really not sure how much actual testing they do before release.)

I too question whether they do any testing, and if so, not very well. This has been raised on here several times and I was assured by Arlo Care Team here in Europe that testing is indeed taking place.

A minor thing would be the word for your location (in my case it's 'Home') 'moving around' on each screen as one selects different sections at the bottom of the screen (Devices, Feed etc etc). 'Just' lack of attention to detail. 😜
