- Isn't the Arlo Pro série pixel motion detection based (and not PIR) ?

All Pro cameras are using the PIR sensor when on battery power. Some models will switch to pixel detection when connected to AC power (but not solar).

- Ok could be a firmware update, at least it would explain the outages. However it means my cameras could go offline randomly at any time during day or night for a firmware update.

Not exactly what I meant. Though firmware updates will reboot the camera (taking it offline for a couple minutes), the firmware isn't updated very often.

I was thinking that the updated firmware could reduce the motion sensitivity somewhat (IMO a bug).

BTW, you might want to check the motion sensitivity settings in the app. The default used to be 80. But some folks did find that their cameras got reset to 50 after an app update.

Daily outage

Am I the only one who notice daily outage in Arlo services ?

I got two hubs and 8 cams, with cats ans dogs in my garden there is at least one recording triggered every hour, but since may be two weeks i've notice every other day a blank periode of 1, 2 or 3 hours with no records at all Just to mention I have several other devices permanetly connected to Internet and they are all fine, so it's not related to my ISP.

Now my guess is that Arlo has on a regular basis cloud outage, but do not notifiy their customers of the issue.

Any advice welcome

Cheers

There are other possible explanations.

A firmware update might have affected motion detection

There can be some seasonal variation in the performance of the passive infrared (PIR) sensor

Although tedious to set up, you could set up 24 automations that record a camera every hour, and then see if you get all 24 recordings over the day.

Thanks for your reply, some additional comments:

- Isn't the Arlo Pro série pixel motion detection based (and not PIR) ?

- Ok could be a firmware update, at least it would explain the outages. However it means my cameras could go offline randomly at any time during day or night for a firmware update. This is not exactly in line with my conception of "security".
