I lean towards a FIXED time of record.... 30-45 secs usu is fine for me.

It picks up enough of the motion ( tho may not get all if they stay ) but it does reset after about 15 secs or so and will re-trigger.

My camera will record the beginning of an event but not record the entire thing. For example, a man walks in front of my house. The camera records him coming into frame, records for a few seconds, then stops recording before he's out of frame. The total record time is approximately 10 seconds.

Default recording time is set to 10 seconds in the camera rules.

Did you change that setting?

I just changed it from "record until motion stops" to record for 120 seconds. Let's see if that helps.

I just changed it from "record until motion stops" to record for 120 seconds. Let's see if that helps.

For the record, the "record until motion stops" fools a lot of folks. The issue is that the CAMERA has to detect motion to keep recording, not your eyes. This depends on the same things as motion detection in the first place, specifically the motion distance (<25 feet for people), the motion sensitivity settings in your modes and rules, as well as the direction of motion, with across the FOV being much preferred compared to directly at the camera. The solution to this is to test yourself to get what's needed which may require location modification and/or sensitivity settings.

Quite some time ago, I tested this feature by walking back and forth in front of the camera, slowly increasing the distance. The result was that the feature works properly - as long as the camera can detect the motion. Once I moved out of range, the camera kept recording for ~5 seconds and then stopped. This was an optimized test since I was moving across the FOV. Had I been moving in and out (directly at and away from the camera) the results would have been significantly different. That's why the testing is needed as well as understanding how the likely motion is going to occur.

As above, the timed recording is usually the more satisfactory solution.

FWIW, my own cameras are set to "record until motion stops", and that works ok for me.
