Okay when I get more time, I will look into this. Not sure how it will work at this time. Right now, I got my Shaw Router (ISP Provider router) in bridge mode that connects to my TP-Link Archer C80 AC1900 Wireless MU-MIMO Wi-Fi 5 Router.

I will have to check first if this TP-Link router can do what you are saying. hopefully if it does there will be a tutorial.

Hi

I bought from costco the Arlo security package and it came with 3 cameras and 1 base station. I been on the free trial for the last 3 months but now it has expired.

I was trying to see how good the cameras are without the paid plan.

I noticed when I am out and I get a notification of an "event" and then I try to go to the Arlo app, I can't see any videos (even previous ones) but when I get home and open the app I can see all the videos and download them.

Do I have to be on the same network to see videos from the base station or be in range of it?

No, I did not see that. I did the first part a long time ago (pretty much day I bought the device).

till I lost cloud, I did not know about it being on the same network.

Seems like I have 2 options, trying to do some VPN on my router and phone (which seems like it will be an added cost) or port forwarding that can open me up to attacks.

Both don't seem that great of an option.

@chobo2 wrote:

Seems like I have 2 options, trying to do some VPN on my router and phone (which seems like it will be an added cost)

The VPN option isn't about a commercial VPN service like Nord. Those services tunnel your internet traffic from your home to a remote server.

This VPN works in the other other direction - tunneling traffic from your remote device to your router. My own Orbi router includes OpenVPN, and the PC/Android/iOS clients for OpenVPN are free. It also needs a service called DDNS to find your router - you can also find that for free (noip.com is one provider).

If your router doesn't have this particular feature, then you might need to purchase another one (which is a cost). If DD-WRT firmware is available for your router, you could alternatively try that (which is free).
