To my knowledge, changing the sensitivity as you describe only applies to the motion test. You have to go to Mode and edit EACH individual instance for each camera (the little pencil next to each mode).

I’ve not found a default setting in the app.

In the last 2 months, my Arlo Pro4 is no longer recording my cat's movements throughout the house. We have one camera focused on her food & water bowls. We know she is eating, but have no video recordings in our library to show her movements.

The cameras are working because they record our movements when we are feeding her.

This is especially frustrating because this system always worked before in recording our cat's movements.

The firmware is up to date. We have moved the sensitivity to 100%. We pulled the battery and replaced it with a fresh one. What else should we try?

Thanks for any advice.

MT

Look for the message thread on this board entitled “Motion Sensitivity” I posted. I think you will find the discussion will help you make the changes needed to detect your cat.

Thanks for your response.

I believe I found your Motion Sensitivity message thread. It just discussed setting the sensitivity above 80% , right?

My cameras’ sensitivities have been set at 100%. And just to clarify, I found Sensitivity under Device Utilities, Motion Detection Test. That’s where I set it to 100% a few weeks ago. (I just checked…it is still at 100%.)

Any other thoughts out there in terms of what I can try?

Thanks to all.

MT

The default settings for motion sensitivity is in the camera's settings under Default Mode Settings. Alternatively, when editing g the camera's rule in any mode, you can Add an Action, Customize Device and click through, choosing the same camera every time, to enable Motion Sensitivity. You really only need to use the latter choice if you need different settings for different modes.

PTUxTOO and jguerdat:

Thank you both so much for the clear explanations. I did not realize that “Sensitivity” was a few clicks in under Mode. I had never edited the “Rules” before.

I made the change and the camera is now detecting the cat. (I should have reached out to this community weeks ago!)

Thanks, again!

MT

I apologize for my ignorance, but I DO NOT see these default settings you refer to under each device. I accomplished the same result by changing sensitivity for each instance of a device in a mode and thought having to do so was ridiculous so I do hope it’s there.

FWIW - using app v. 5.3.3 and Apple devices for access.

That is because you are using the older "Library" interface.

As you've been told before, the current app supports both interfaces. Which one you get depends on how your account is set up in the Arlo Cloud. You can force the migration to "Feed" if you like, but you should research all the ramifications before doing that. You won't be able to migrate back to "Library".

There is some information here on the differences:

Thanks for the link. Being told there are two different interfaces doesn’t identify capability differences between the two.

In this case, there are no differences in capabilities. It's just where the specific settings are.

You say “there are no differences in capabilities“. Just to be clear, if the Library interface has no capability to change the default motion sensitivity in ONE place per camera, that is a difference. Right?

Yeah, kinda-sorta. With Library interface, you would need to edit your modes and rules to set that while the Feed interface sets it per camera in the camera settings.

That is correct.

"Feed" has default mode settings for

fhe motion detection threshold

the audio detection threshold

the recording length

siren sounding length

siren volume

These are applied automatically to the camera rules in any mode. If you change them, the new values are applied to those rules.

You can override these values in a camera rule (and if you use that override, then updates to the default value won't be applied to that particular rule).

FWIW, this would be more useful if there were more modes.
