So I updated my router to 5G and now my cameras can't connect to my router through wifi over 5G. Arlo says I need to connect via 2.4 and I should call my provider. I just paid to increase my wifi to 5g and have no idea how to go about getting 2.4 just to set my cameras up. If anyone knows, please explain clearly so i can get my cameras working again.

ANy new router supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Upgrading so you have the 5GHz capability doesn't eliminate the 2.4GHz band unless someone specifically disabled it which is highly unlikely.

I use a phone that connects to my 5GHz signal and set up devices that use 2.4GHz all the time. However, I separate the bands so they use different SSIDs so that could be an issue for you. The various Arlo devices only connect to 2.4GHz so having the other band available shouldn't be an issue. WHat happens when you try to set up a camera?

the cameras can not find the internet. I do not know how to separate the router to get 2.4 for just my cameras. there is an ssid on the rear of the router but I only see 1 and I do not see a different ssid for just 2.4

A solution may be to use a computer browser set to my.arlo.com for the configuration. Can you try that?

I am going to ask verizon how to get an ssid for 2.4 for my router. If I can not do that I will try your suggestion.

thank you for explaining.

What router model do you have?

FWIW, the simplest way to avoid this is to set up the new router to use the same ssid and wifi password that the old one used.

Not sure if will help but a few things.

1) reset your camera. I had to do this several times as I was getting the amber button but it was fake resetting. See #2 for why I say fake reset.

2) to confirm this I logged into my wifi router and saw my camera was still connected as a device. I disconnected it through the router.

3) then for extra measure, I reset camera again then checked connected devices on my router to make sure it had not connected behind my back.

4) finally. When I went through the add arlo add devices, it connected perfectly.

I hope this helps.
