No. The camera connects to the base over the closed wifi. The base is connected to your local network (and to the arlo cloud) over the ethernet connection to your router.

The app connects to the Arlo cloud - and when you are home, it can also connect to the base.

Yes, I'm setting up the system for the first time. After plugging in the ethernet, then powering it up, it states that is going to "search for my Arlo device". After searching for a few minutes it ststes that " no Arlo devices are found" Try again? In a nutshell my phone is not connection to the base.

Are you following these steps in this video that is in the pinned FAQ here.
Yes, following these instructions exactly. I've probably done it 20 times. I've been through all the FAQ's and support and just can't get it to recognize my phone. I'm thinking there might be a setting on my phone that might be causing this. Like you said, the base has a blue light and is connected to the internet. But my phone won't connect to the base. When I go to my wifi settings on my phone, I even see an option to click on Arlo but it then asks me for a password. Ughhh

No, and that is by design. The phone should be connected to your home wifi network, not the base.

If you are having trouble on-boarding with the phone, then you could try using a PC browser (via my.arlo.com).

Thanks for the help, but not sure I'm understanding. The first step in installation is "plug in your ethernet cable". Step 2 is "plug in your power". Once you do that and press continue, it goes to a screen that say "Looking for your Arlo device. Give us a few minutes to look for any available base stations or hubs".
I wait about two minutes while it searches...It then says " No Arlo devices currently found".
That's as far as I get. My phone is connected to the wifi. But don't I need a connection to the base so that I can later review my camera etc? Maybe I'm losing it! Lol....
