I need a camera to record 24/7.

I have wireless alto system. It comes on with motion. I need a camera to record 24/7. I also don’t have unlimited data so I need to run a wire to the camera? Is there an add on to the system I have or should I just get a whole new system? Thanks.

Arlo provides a CVR subscription but as it stores recordings to the cloud it would need unlimited internet. In fact all arlo products require access to the internet to function, recording or monitoring etc.

I would suggest you look for a cctv system that stores the recordings locally and gives you access to them via your local network.

These other cctv systems are overwhelming. Anywhere I should look specifically?

I don’t use cctv myself, others on the forum maybe able to help.

With cctv system that are wired they are usually cheap but costly to install. The ones that use wireless cameras are usually much more expensive due to their reliability requirements.

Probably best to get out and shop around a bit first to get a feel if you’re a DYI fan.

Alternatively look for a local security firm and see what systems they would install. If not technically savvy, see what local support they can give.

How far does the Arlo pro 3 pick up activity? How many feet? Thinking I could position the camera close enough to pick up activity?

And I am having issues where unless the camera is charging it won’t set activity zones? They can’t be right. Before it let me set them once they were hanging. Could this be because I don’t have the subscription plan?

Activity zones require AC power (no subscription) or a subscription. Are the cameras AC powered?

Cameras are not ac powered. If I don’t have activity zones set up will it just pick up all activity?

The spec is 20-25 feet. Though this does depend, and it often will pick up vehicles from further away.

BTW, it is not a good camera for capturing license plate numbers.

I just need vehicles not license. I really just need to pick up vehicle making noise. Without unlimited internet it’s a challenge and the. The other cctv don’t pick up noise.

Have you tried using audio detection instead of motion detection?

I'm confused on why you need 24/7 recording if you are just looking for recordings of vehicles making noise.

Look in the mode for the base station (selecting the rule for the camera).

Likely you will need to set the detection threshold fairly high (otherwise you might get a flood of detections). If there is a specific time window you are interested in, you can also set up a schedule, so audio detection is off during other times.

I kindly warning for using the audio trigger for detection is that the cameras are susceptible to wind pressure so some care should be given to the camera positioning to keep it from false triggering.

Yes, that is one reason I suggested that the threshold mattered (setting it lower makes the detection less sensitive). Wind on the microphone likely still will trigger it, so I agree that the positioning is important.
