Is a central or control station needed?

Does the VMC4040P or the Ultra require a base station or control station of some sort?
As I review the cameras I can't find any information on the requirement to use a central station.

I plan to use all wifi/wireless cameras (only 3-4 in total, including the doorbell). Any documentation on the actual system design/architecture/configuration/manual would be appreciated. Thanks.

Both the Pro 3 and the Ultra/Ultra2 require a base station. The base station is connected to your local network via ethernet, and it creates a closed wifi network for the cameras to use.

You can add local storage to the base station, which can act as a either a backup or a a substitute for the cloud storage.

With these particular cameras, I'd recommend getting a smarthub (VMB4540 or VMB5000)

The Pro 4 cameras can connect either directly to your home wifi network, or to a base station.

The essential cameras (which are 1080) can also connect to either your home wifi or to a base.
