Base Station communication speed

Hi All,

How can I know whether the communication between the Base Station and Camera is good enough?

How can I know whether the Base Station is placed far away from the Camera or the distance is close enoutgh so that they communicate smoothly one with another?

Will I receive any alert once a communication between the Camera and Base Station is broken?

That's what the signal strength indicators are for on both the Devices tab as well in the camera settings. You will see a disconnected message if the camera loses its connection but no alert.

It seems Iunderstand why the Base Station is needed for... It temporarly saves the video clips and then send them to the Netgear servers....

So, the WiFi signal of the Base Station should be stronger than of a regular WiFi router. Is that true?

Did someone try to compare between the WiFi Router and Netgear Base Station signal strengths?

There is no correlation between the wifi signal strength and the camera signal strength as Arlo uses its own network between the base station radios and the camera radios and uses a different frequency for that communication. Your wifi signal could be fantastic, but if the distance between the radios in the base and the radios in the cameras is too great the cameras will drop off line. If the signal in the devices section of the app are at least one out of three bars, the cameras should work fine. If you can't get good camera strengths in every location, you might need to either use range extenders and more base stations as the additional base stations must connect to the internet through an ethernet cable, not wirelessly.

Looking on my wifi analyzer app, the Arlo Base station does appear to have a very strong signal compared to most routers though the Nighthawk is pretty similar

Just an FYI - the base doesn't store the videos at all. It simply streams the data from the camera to the servers. It's a stripped down router.
