Understanding this is the key to your problem. The top field is telling you the mode(s) in which the automation is enabled. It won't run if the system is in a mode that is not in the list. If you set the two fields the same, then the automation has no effect - it would only switch to Standby if the system is already in Standby.

Hi all,

I setup 2 automations in the new app. 1 to do Arm at night. 1 to do Standby in the morning at specific times. Simple enough ? Not so with the new app. Below is the setup. Please correct if its done wrong. Thanks in advance.

1. Morning schedule. In Edit schedule - field 1 (Morning), field 2 (Standby > standby enabled only). Schedule when (7:35am, everyday). schedule then (send notification, standby > standby mode selected). When i test that automation, it works but it doesn't standby at set time.

2. Evening schedule. In Edit schedule - field 1 (Evening), field 2 (Arm home > Arm home enabled). schedule when (7:00pm, everyday), schedule then (send notification, arm home > arm home mode selected). When i test it it, it works but it doesn't arm automatically at set time.

Also, in edit schedule, whats the reason of prompting for modes to enable twice in the setup ? first in field # 2, then in the action.

Appreciate whatever help you can offer. Thank you !

First off, my hats off to StephenB for helping !

Stephen has correctly nailed the issue. The top / naming section is the problem. I had the same mode enabled/entered the same so that automation has no effect. The safest is to leave all 3 modes enabled so any automation would work. Stephen is a lifesaver 🙂

one minor edit, i think the key point is missing a NOT and should say "it would only switch to Standby if the system is NOT already in Standby."

I was describing how the system behaves when it is incorrectly configured. If both fields are the same, it would only switch if the system is already in the target mode - which has no effect. Of course, this is not what you want.
