Power adapter will not charge on top outlet but will on bottom. Top outlets works fine.

we have the arlo outdoor power adaptor hooked to an outdoor extension cord to reach the outlet. there are four outlets two are at the top of the porch post and two at the bottom of the post. The power adaptor shows charging when in the bottom outlet but not on the top outlet with the same extension cord. Yet we plug other things into the top outlets and they work fine. This is driving us crazy. We need to run the cord across the top of the porch to reach the camera. Any ideas please.

We have tried a new cord, now it works when the battery is in but not if the battery is taken out. I have been told the battery does not need to be in when using the power adaptor. True?

There should be no problem with the battery in or out. Since that's not true here, use the Contact Support link at the bottom here for possible faulty hardware.
